What is God’s mission? What is His vision? Why does He tolerate the evil in the world? Did He know what would happen when He created the Devil? Adam? Did He know that death, sickness, brutality, deception, and tyranny would occur? Of course He did! So why did He choose to go down this road?
That is a question that you must ask and come up with the correct answer, or your faith will always be hindered. I say your faith, and what I mean is your faith in what God has done for you.
What has God done for you through Christ Jesus? What does the Bible say are His “exceedingly great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:4)? We certainly cannot have faith in something that we have no idea what to have faith in.
We know that God, when He created all things, knew what would happen. He knew that death, sickness, poverty, violence, crime, and deceit would take place. We also know that God is against all that is evil: the death, poverty, violence, crime, and deceit. It seems that what we don’t know is why does God allow these things to happen? If He’s against evil, why ever let it happen in the first place?
The broad answer is found in what God’s ultimate mission is. Think eternally. God does. We know that when this age ends death, sickness, poverty, violence, crime, and all that is evil will be done away with; so what could be the reason for allowing us to have to go through this age?
Faithfulness!
Jesus is called Faithful and True: (ESV) “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war” (Revelation 19:11).
We are to be accounted as faithful also!
When this age is over, and the new heaven and earth is created, all things that are not loyal to God will be cast away into outer darkness. God will not tolerate an eternity of sickness, poverty, violence, crime, deceit, rebellion, and death in His kingdom. Those of us that are faithful and don’t fall away from the faith, though we haven’t been perfected in this life, God will trust us to be obedient in the next age. There will be no more rebellion.
So what is God’s mission? To have a family that will be faithful to Him throughout eternity. If we can be faithful in this age, we can be faithful in the ages to come.
